One Year On…

A year ago we entered Lockdown 1. Our stock levels were diminishing fast and we were struggling to replace it.

Having been reliant on collection points in churches we were hit hard when they had to close. Although our supporters were generous with financial donations we still struggled to source food as there were limits of 3 on many supermarket items... bulk purchases weren’t possible. I recall a day when we were making up food parcels and we ran out of tinned meat completely. It was a genuine answer to prayer when one of our supporters turned up with a carrier bag full of tinned meat which got us through the rest of that day!

A year on and we are in a very different situation... we now have much more healthy stock levels than a year ago. In some items we have up to three months stock, e.g. beans, soup and pasta! We have many people to thank for our blessed position.

A year ago the unusually sunny weather allowed for street collections to sprout.

Collection bins placed outside for people to make donations while out for their daily walk have been a great success. Three street collections even made it through the colder, wetter, darker months and are still going strong... huge thanks to Haverbreaks, Abraham Heights and Scotforth St Pauls parish. It is great to feel the support of the local community, particularly when times get tough!
